The Challenge
The existing in house Field Techs and customers process of managing vehicle acquisition to our database was inefficient requiring a 2 step process from a handheld VIN scanner and camera. Uploads were then handled separately. The goal of the VehicleTools Mobile tools is to capture vehicle details and photos to the same unit to improve acquisition to our database. The file upload would be handled while on the Sales lot.
How can we streamline our vehicle acquisition process?

How can this unit be able to upload their data without streaming errors?
Personas
With the information from the interviews, I started narrowing down the scope of the project, creating a proto-persona. That ensured the further design decisions stayed user-centric.
User Flow
The User Flow based on feedback from Field Techs and customers was to replicate the steps of the Field Tech and Self Service client current process. The Product Owners, Project Managers, and Developers agreed as well to this line of thinking. The decision of making the app only available on the Tablet was as a result of the amount of space required for selecting vehicle details and photos was more usable on the Tablet. The diagramming process was very efficient and only a couple of versions were reviewed. We got a go a head to move forward once the lead developer verified that the VIN decoder and camera libraries were tested and verified. All database fields matched VehicleTools desktop version.
Sketching
Once we have received the app requirements from the stakeholders, we flowed 2 iterations before arriving at the user user flow we would base our prototype on. The concept for the entry screen was undefined for speed and the decision to handle that was postponed on the prototype phase.
